Visual Representation Study
"Amalgam"
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute | Digital Constructs
An experimental cube assembly superimposed over an extruded surface field, Amalgam presents a study in digital representation and lighting. First, preliminary sectional studies were created based on an assembly of intersecting cubes in order to gain an understanding of the system’s internal geometry. This spatial analysis was done in both planar sectional drawings as well as 3-dimensional perspectives.
This system was transformed across a rugged geometric plane across which shadow layers could be observed. Amalgam is the composite visualization of these projections, creating a dynamic and striking relationship between “figure and field”. This method of assessing an object through its sections was an exercise in geometric precision as much as design itself.
